Factions is one of the main features of Argonath RPG Minecraft. This system allows players to provide automatic anti-griefing protection to their work and provides enjoyable means of getting together, making friends and roleplay with other players in the server. Factions work in a similar structure to clans, and may declare wars to other factions, establish alliances, protect their land from non-members etc.

Faction commands can be viewed ingame with the /f help command.

Faction Rules

Factions must abide by the factions rules set forth by the Minecraft Management.

Structure

Factions have three main aspects:

  • Land, which is the amount of chunks (16x128x16 bits of the server map) claimed by the faction. Blocks, doors and containers inside claimed land can not be manipulated by non-members.
  • Power, which is the amount of chunks that a faction is able to claim for its possession. Having less power than claimed land makes the land vulnerable to claiming from other factions.
  • Max power, which is the maximum amount of chunks a faction may claim. This is the result of multiplying the number of members by five.

A faction member's death inside own territory or enemy territory will result in the loss of power. Lost power can be recharged by being active in the server (not AFK) at a rate of 5 minutes for every power point. A member's individual power can range from -5 to +5.

Membership

There are three types of members in a faction: leader, moderators and regular members. The leader has full control of the faction, and this place can be occupied only by one player, generally the founder of the faction. Moderators are members appointed by the leader to play the co-leading role. Leaders and moderators are able to manage the faction tag and description, territory, members, set a home and manage the diplomacy. Regular members add 5 power each to the faction, making large factions able to claim more chunks than smaller ones.

There are also custom titles, but these are purely cosmetic and have no effect in the faction structure. The faction leader and moderators can give titles, and these can be anything.

Diplomacy

Relations between factions can be classified as three types:

  • Allies: ally factions can not damage each other and have access to their allies' territory. An alliance is made after agreement of both sides interested. Breaking an alliance depends only on one side.
  • Neutral: this is the default relation. Neutral factions can not attack each other and do not have any special rights in other factions' territories. Neutrality is restored as result of breaking alliances or ending enemy status.
  • Enemies: enemy factions can go at war with each other. This is also an one-sided initiative, but finishing a foeship depends on agreement of both parties.

The faction leader and its moderators serve as the diplomats. Besides, there are peaceful factions, which are granted this status by the server management. Peaceful factions are not allowed to involve themselves in faction combat at the benefit of being invulnerable from attacks. These factions can't be declared as enemies nor allies by other groups.
